Abstract

The study examines the transformation of the labor market and employment structure in Csongrád-Csanád County between 2010 and 2023, from the effects of the economic crisis to the post-pandemic period. Based on data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) and the state employment agency, it presents the significant decline in the number of registered job seekers, the evolution of the role of public employment, and the impact of active employment policy instruments, including several EU-funded programs. During the period under review, the economically active population and the number of employed persons in the county increased simultaneously, while the transition from public employment to the open labor market became increasingly successful. Although the COVID-19 pandemic caused a brief slowdown, the downward trend continued later. The county currently has one of the lowest job vacancy rates in the country, which raises challenges for the future in terms of labor reserves. The study notes that regional-level and time-extended studies are also warranted to explore further development opportunities.
